Teclast X70 R 3G is a budget tablet offering from the Chinese manufacturer Teclast. If you have not heard of this name, it is quite a well-known tablet brand in the Chinese market, especially for its dual-boot tablets and X98 series. However, today we will talk about the tablet that costs only about $60 (about Rs. 4,000) and offers a 7-inch display, 1GB RAM, 8GB of internal storage, a 64-bit quad-core Intel chipset, and Android Lollipop v5.1.1.
You must be thinking, well that’s a lot for the price asked. But is it really a lot or these are just numbers that make spec sheet of the tablet look good. Let’s find out.

Build & Design:
The Teclast X70 R 3G has a plastic build all around as you would expect from a tablet as cheap as $60. But the good thing is that the plastic doesn’t feel cheap when you touch or hold the tablet. It does not have too much of a thickness which makes it quite easy to hold the tablet with one hand and its relatively lighter weight makes it even better. Do remember that since it is a 7-inch tablet, you will not able to do all kind of work with just one hand, but when it comes to tasks like browsing photos in a gallery, scrolling through a web page, or pages of an eBook, you can do all those sort of things quite easily.
The tablet has volume rocker at the right side and below it, you will also find the power key. The keys have a tactile feel to them. On the top, there is a 3.5mm headphone jack along with USB port. There are no physical buttons for home, back, or recent apps as the tablet offers on-screen buttons for the purpose.
It is a dual-SIM tablet and you will find the SIM slot along with microSD card slot and speaker at the back. The tablet has a fairly loud speakers which are quite clear for the price point as well.
Display:
The Teclast X70 R 3G has a 7-inch IPS panel display with a slightly weird resolution at 1024x600pixels. It means you are not getting an HD display. It is very reflective for the day time usage and when you are out in the sun, you will see your face more prominently as compared to the content on the screen. You can surely try to make that better by increasing the brightness, but even at the full brightness, you will not find any major relief. On the other hand, when you are inside a room, you will find it a lot better.
Another noteworthy thing here is that the tablet loses the battery very drastically on increasing the display to full brightness or on the higher side. I will talk about it in detail while talking about the battery.
Performance:
The tablet is powered by a 64-bit quad-core Intel Atom x3 C-3230 chipset along with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. These specs are good enough for performing casual tasks like watching videos, listening to music, reading books or browsing the Internet. It can also run games like Asphalt 8 (Medium settings), Modern Combat 5 and EA Sports UFC quite well as long as you are not running multiple apps together. However, as you will move towards more resource hungry tasks, you will start experiencing lags, slow response time, and other such things. The tablet starts getting heat up after about 20-30 minutes of intensive gaming. But I won’t blame Teclast for it. After all, it costs only $60 and to expect more will not only be greedy, but quite unfair.
Software:
The Teclast X70 R 3G runs on Teclast OS based on Android Lollipop v5.1.1. The software is almost similar to the stock Android and if you are a fan of stock UI over custom UIs or ROMs, you will definitely like it. Since it is named as Teclast OS, then you will obviously get to see a few things different from the stock Android.
One of the really helpful changes in the UI is that you can clear all recent apps by tapping a simple cross icon at the bottom of the screen. The cross icon appears only when you are in recent apps interface and helps you in getting rid off all the opened apps in one tap instead of swiping them one by one. It also comes with a few bloatware, but good thing is that all of them are removable. Another good thing is that despite being a Chinese tablet, it comes with Google Apps pre-installed so you won’t have to worry about flashing it yourself.
I am using this tablet for almost a week and I came across only three to five instances when an app crashed or the UI has stopped working. The Teclast OS is very stable and you will rarely run into app crashes. The only thing I wish is if Teclast could provide an upgrade to Android Marshmallow, then it will become a sweeter deal for $60.
Battery:
Battery is the most disappointing aspect of the Teclast X70 R 3G. The tablet can give you a battery backup of up to about 8-10 hours on a single charge, but only if you keep the brightness to as low as possible and don’t do any heavy stuff or a lot of multitasking. When I first received the tablet, I charged it to full and turned the brightness to almost maximum. And to my surprise, the battery was below 50% within two hours with only a few songs streamed online.
To make it worse, it takes about four hours to charge from 0 to 100. However, when I kept the brightness to the lower side, only then it was able to go on for about seven hours. But again as I said, you will have to avoid doing heavy stuff on the tablet if you want to get the maximum possible juice.
Camera:
The Teclast X70 R 3G tablet has a better camera quality than what I expected from it after looking at its price tag. It has only 2MP rear camera with no flash and focus. As you would expect, it clicks better images in daylight conditions and the quality deteriorates as you go into low light conditions. But you can still get decent photos if you are patient, have steady hands, and enable the color processing & white balance from the camera settings. On the front, there is a VGA camera which does not offer much to talk about.

Final Thoughts:
The Teclast X70 R 3G has its good and bad things like every other gadget, but what matters the most here is its price. It costs only $60 and in my opinion, it justifies that more than what you would expect. If you are looking for a tablet that you can use for casual browsing, play some games when bored, watch your favorite videos, going through some documents, then it should definitely be on your list.
